Mooney Aircraft

The Mooney International Corporation (formerly Mooney Aviation Company, Inc., the Mooney Aircraft Corporation, and the Aerostar Aircraft Corporation) is an American aircraft manufacturer based in Kerrville, Texas, United States. It manufactures single-engined piston-powered general aviation aircraft.

Through its history the company has had many American owners and subsequent bankruptcies. Mooney International was purchased in 2013 by a Chinese private equity, real-estate development company, the Meijing Group^[3] who ran it until 2020, when it was purchased by a group of Mooney aircraft owners under US Financial, LLC of Wyoming.

Shock waves are visible around a T-38 trainer aircraft during NASA’s Air-to-Air Background Oriented Schlieren flights in 2019. Schlieren imaging makes normally invisible changes in air density visible, giving researchers a way to see the same shock waves that can create sonic booms on the ground. NASA Armstrong Flight Research Center used this work to refine airborne schlieren photography techniques in support of X-59 flight testing and NASA’s Quesst mission.
